JOIN US FOR MAGIC IN THE MARKET NOVEMBER 29th
Out on the Marketfront Pavilion, Louis will be creating his own magic for you, demonstrating his wand-making skills taught to him by his old mentor, the late Master Wandmaker Garrick Hurt. Watch as he selects from carefully chosen domestic and exotic woods to load onto his lathe and turns into the most beautiful handmade wands right before your eyes! And there will be a large selection of wands available for you to take home for yourself or for gifts! They make great stocking-stuffers! Our wand display stands are handmade from Red Alder, a truly PNW tree. And for the ultimate wand-lover’s gift, we have our soft-lined Luxe Wand Boxes, beautifully dovetailed and also handmade from Red Alder!
Stop by the Marketfront Pavilion, from 10 – 4 to see the 30th Annual Magic in the Market as it happens!
WE NOW HAVE HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS!
We really love leaning into the Winter holidays, and we’ve just added beautiful, hand-turned wooden holiday ornaments to our lineup! We are ridiculously excited to offer Birdhouses, Squarehead Spindle Things large and small, Great Big Giant Balls, Regular-Sized Balls, Fancies, and Doodads made from the most gorgeous domestic and exotic woods for you to decorate your home! Check out the photo.slider below for some examples, and remember that each ornament is turned one at a time in our little basement shop, so every single one is unique, and hand-signed!
A Bit About Us
Established from scratch as a new woodshop in November of 2021, Shackleton & Shanks specializes in heirloom quality hardwood toys that we hope will bring joy to your family for generations to come. While we also love to make toys for smashing, crashing, and pounding into oblivion, our hearts and souls are in the toys that your great-great-grandchildren will fight over in court.
Be sure to check out our trains made from White Oak and Walnut, our biplanes made from Red Oak, and our wands, tops, and yo-yos made from the most beautiful and enduring domestic and exotic hardwoods of all sorts.
For those who enjoy annual collectibles, each holiday season, we’ll be showcasing very limited-edition train cars to add to our set. Don’t miss out because when they’re gone, they’re gone!
Wishing you all the love and all the joy,
Louis & Gretchen

A Bit About Me
The son of a carpenter, I began learning woodcraft at my father’s knee in the old Pennsylvania traditions. Years later, my Pop and I took our shop to warmer climes on the beaches of North Carolina until my Pop retired in the 2010s. In 2020, I switched coasts and, a year later, opened a new woodshop with my partner, Gretchen. This time, I decided I’d make toys. If there is a higher calling than bringing joy to kids of all ages, I don’t know what it is.
